Spanish Civil War

The Spanish Civil War was a war fought between varying Nationalist factions vs the Spanish Republic. It lasted from 1936 to 1939 and resulted in the deaths of 500,000 Spanish.

The Republican Government was founded after the eviction of King Amadeo I in 1873 and resulted in a democratic system inspired by Bolivars reforms in South America.

Many years later the Republic was heavily fragmented and divided internally between several groups.

The Carlists,  wanted a Carlist claimant and were anti liberal
Alfonsism, wanted the exiled Bourbon king Alfonso XIII back
Second Spanish Republic, wanted a secular democracy
Communist Party of Spain, communist and aligned with soviets
CNT-FAI, anarchists
PSOE, socialists and democratic

 Led by General Francisco Franco, the Spanish Nationalists united to fight the republican army and restore the Catholic Church to Spain. Initially the Spanish Nationalists were losing however when Franco returned with veteran soldiers that had recently fought in
