Free State of Turin

The Free State of Turin is an independently functioning city-state, located in Turin. It is led by Prince Amedeo, the 3rd Duke of Aosta.

Turin has historically always been an issue for whoever occupies it. In the Savoy Rebellion, they were the first to unite with Sardinia; in the Italian Unification led by Benito Mussolini, they were the last to join; when Pope Francis took control of Italy, they were the first to rebel. Turin has always held sentiment towards the House of Savoy and for the concept of a Constitutional Monarchy. During the reign of Il Poo, several fled Turin to move to Sicily, and even more began publicly protesting and rebelling in the streets, demanding that Italy not get involved in the war. After the Second Sicilian Civil War and the collapse of the Sicilian Constitution, Turin’s leaders secretly allowed dozens of officials to seek refuge. When Pope Francis caught word of this, he had every collaborator and refugee executed, and imposed strict martial law on Turin, installing military commander Ugo Caverllo to rule the city. 

Tensions would skyrocket after the failed military junta led by Vittorio Ambrosio and Alfredo Guzzoni outside of Rome. It showed the citizens of Turin that the Pope could be threatened in such a manner, even if it might fail. Seizing the opportunity, Prince Amedeo returned from hiding and began rallying the people in secret night meetings. On September 6th, 2026, with the aid of 750 militia men, secretly supplied by the Novus Ordo, blockaded all roads leading to Turin and captured Ugo Caverllo and all other officials in the town hall. Amedeo sent Pope Francis a simple demand: give us the city, and we will send Caverllo back to Caverllo; or deny us and watch all the captives die. Forced to comply, Pope Francis reluctantly accepted the demands, granting Amedeo full sovereignty over Turin.

With Amedeo installed, the city would act as a Free State, self-reliant, and under a constitution currently in progress. Because of its strategic location and potential help in their future war, Grem Grems officially, on September 9th, declared that the Novus Ordo would guarantee the independence of Turin and would declare war on any aggressors trying to take Turin.
