Prince Amedeo

Amedeo Umberto Isabella Luigi Filippo Maria Giuseppe Giovanni di Savoia-Aosta, better known as Prince Amedeo, 3rd Duke of Aosta, is one of the few remaining members of the House of Savoy still living in Italy. 

Amedeo was born in 1898 in the city of Turin. He was born into the House of Savoy, a fairly insignificant family in the Italian world at the time. When he turned 18 in 1916, he enlisted in the Sardinian army to help defeat the Papal States and other Italian states during the Savoy Rebellion. Following the war's end, and having seen little to no combat, he returned to his hometown of Turin. After Mussolini unified Italy, Amedeo went into hiding, living in a small countryside villa away from any urban environment. From there, he lived in relative solitude for many years. 

Many years later, following the 2026 Italian military junta against the Pope, Amedeo returned from hiding and traveled back to Turin, which had been under intense civil unrest and had sympathies towards Alfredo Guzzoni and Vittorio Ambrosio’s cause. In secret late-night meetings, Amedeo rallied the people toward a sovereign Turin. On September 3rd, Amedeo, with a militia force of around 750, quickly ordered the blockade of all connecting roads and held the city's leaders captive, demanding that Pope Francis recognize a free state of Turin or they would lose their lives. 8 hours later, Pope Francis conceded and permitted Amedeo to establish the Free State of Turin.
