War Of Two Sicilies

Following the coup and destabilization of Sicily in 1993, Sicily was under the reign of DD for several years, however in 2024, Yakub and Il Poo would launch a joint civil war to overthrow DD from power. In just a few months, Sicily was unified. However, disputes grew between them and in October 2008, Sicily was once again in a large civil war

Yakub had claimed to be the rightful ruler of Sicily, however Il Poo claimed she was related to Craiglist Barflihan, and was a Habsburg, using the 10-year period the Habsburgs ruled the island as a way to rally support. West Sicily, its capital in Trapani was led by Yakub under a fascist style ideology, whereas East Sicily was under Il Poo, its capital in Messina, and followed a constitutional monarchy (much to the pope's dismay).

The war would be waged on for several years, with Yakub slowly gaining land more and more into the East, which later resulted in all of Sicily eventually reunited under Yakub in 2025.

The German princes, however, were not fond of this, and had wanted Il Poo in office. The German Electorates of Brandenburg and Saxony along with the Swiss confederacy had launched an all out war on Yakub, easily destroying the weakened Sicilian army in a matter of 2 weeks. Il Poo herself had seized power, and would allow Yakub to live peacefully as a goat herder in Trapani. This would be a dark age for Sicily as Il Poo held the island in a tight grip, and refused to let the island be controlled independently again, until recently...

What Now?

Pope Francis, due to his following of salic law has declared Il Poo's constitutional monarchy a "usurpation of the Sicilian crownlands" and a "disgrace to the Habsburg bloodline". The Pope has also more strictly followed the salic law, which bars il poo from governing or ruling any land.

The Pope has also excommunicated Il Poo and had interdicted all members of Constitutional Sicily's government, and had also excommunicated the Jansenist Bishop Giovanni Andrea Serrao, a known Intellectual Jansenist-Schlentonist Churchman, who was the Bishop of Potenza. Though he was not Sicilian, he was a member of Il Poo's parliament.
