Medici is a small island nation west of Corsica and Sardinia, east of the southernmost tip of the Spanish Peninsula. It is led by General Di Ravello under an Authoritarian government taking inspirations from Fascism and some parts of Capitalism. The island was first settled by Sicilians around some unknown date, but later would be taken by the Roman Empire, and every Sicilian slaughtered sometime in the 3rd century AD.
SICILIAN RULE
Established likely around the 4th century BC, Medici was originally under the rule of a very unknown governor, only referenced in one Roman document as Nicotra the Elder. The rest of this period has been forgotten about, likely from the Romans attempts to eradicate any Sicilian presence. Sometime between 170-195 AD the island would gain independence from Sicily and would be put under King Piscopo, which would eventually lead to the islands downfall, as this action caused Sicily to ask the Roman Empire for support in its war to regain Medici.
ROMAN RULE
Under Emperor Septimius Severus, the Roman army would embark and would send 4 Roman legions to Medici in 196 AD. Upon landing, they began exterminating the local population and established a Roman garrison on the southern island, before pushing in and taking the three islands with help of the Sicilian army.
For hundreds of years, Medici would be exposed to Latinization and Roman influence. After West Rome fell, it would be taken by the Byzantine Empire, then later would go under the control of Queen Isabel I de Castile, establishing a Castile based dominance of Medici.
SPANISH RULE
In 1490 Medici would be under the Kingdom of Castile, then later under the Spanish Habsburg rule. During the Thirty Years Francis, Medici would send many of its soldiers to help in the war against the Protestant factions.
In 1934, Medici would gain independence from Spain and for the first time in its history, be an independent island.
MEDICI
Under President Marco Piccolo, Medici would be a democratic state, and would declare its secular state in 1942. During Mussolini's campaign, Medici would help the Freemasons against him, however after they were defeated Medici had to pay a considerable debt.
In 1967, President Dante was elected and fought even more for Liberalism and Secularism, officially declaring Medici as an Atheist state, dedicated to preserving science and moving forward. In 1984, General Di Ravello, a high ranking general would be discharged from the army after he was caught denying imprisoning a Catholic priest. Di Ravello would declare he would start a rebellion, which he did. For the most part it was unsuccessful until 15 Sicilian operatives were sent in 1986, and would partake in espionage and sabotage missions, assassinating President Dante then installing Di Ravello as the Dictator of Medici.
Currently, Medici is prospering under General Di Ravello, using its rare resources, proximity and support of the HRE and Pope to its advantage, returning Medici to a Catholic state. Medici is funding several independent movements in Sicily, but most of them are disrupted by the HREs counterintelligence office.
