War Of Two Sicilies

Following the coup and destabilization of Sicily in 1993, Sicily was under the reign of DD for several years, however in 2024, Yakub and Il Poo would launch a joint civil war to overthrow DD from power. In just a few months, Sicily was unified. However, disputes grew between them and in October 2008, Sicily was once again in a large civil war

Yakub had claimed to be the rightful ruler of Sicily, however Il Poo claimed she was related to Pope Francis, and was a Habsburg, using the 10-year period the Habsburgs ruled the island as a way to rally support. West Sicily, its capital in Trapani was led by Yakub under a fascist style ideology, whereas East Sicily was under Il Poo, its capital in Messina, and followed a constitutional monarchy.

The war would be waged on for several years, with Yakub slowly gaining land more and more into the East, which later resulted in all of Sicily eventually reunited under Yakub in 2025.

Pope Francis, however, was not fond of this, and had wanted Il Poo in office, so Francis rallied the army of the HRE and launched an all out war on Yakub, easily destroying the weakened Sicilian army in a matter of 2 weeks. Francis would then anoint Il Poo as the client leader of Sicily under the HRE, and would allow Yakub to live peacefully as a goat herder in Trapani. This would likely be the last time Sicily would see independence, as Il Poo and Francis hold the island in a tight grip, and refuse to let the island be controlled independently again
